Biographies of Joelle Giappesi

She was born in Beirut to a French father and a Lebanese mother. The civil war, as well as her rebellious personal nature, had a profound impact on her upbringing, which was characterized by extreme social marginality. However, she pursued her postgraduate studies in business administration and worked for several years, in Lebanon and France, and taught economics at the Jesuit University in Beirut, where she lives with her daughter. Joel currently runs an institute that teaches Arabic to foreigners, and spends her spare time designing jewelry.

ولدت في بيروت لأب فرنسي وأمّ لبنانية. وكان للحرب الأهلية، كما لطبعها الشخصي المتمرّد، التأثير العميق في نشأتها الّتي اتّسمت بهامشية اجتماعية قصوى. لكنّها أثبتت في الوقت نفسه جدارة فكرية مكّنتها من متابعة دراسات عليا، فتخرّجت في إدارة الأعمال وعملت فيها عدّة سنوات، في لبنان وفرنسا، ودرّست الاقتصاد في الجامعة اليسوعية ببيروت، حيث تعيش مع ابنتها. تُدير جويل حاليًّا معهدًا لتعليم اللغة العربية للأجانب، وتُمضي أوقات فراغها في الكتابة وتصميم الحُلى.
