Daniel Abdal-hayy Moore

(1940 - 2016)

Daniel Abdal-Hayy Moore was born in 1940 in Oakland, California, and was an influential figure among the Beat poets of the late 60s Counterculture. He was director and writer of the critically-acclaimed Floating Lotus Magic Opera Company, and his first two collections of poetry were published by City Lights Bookstore, San Francisco. In 1970 he embraced Islam, joining a Sufi tariqa, and making Hajj in 1972. He is the author of over 60 manuscripts, some of which are available on www.ecstaticxchange.com, and the recipient of several Nazim Hikmet Awards and an American Book Award. Abdal-Hayy passed away in 2016. A forthcoming collection of selected poems, entitled From a Shore Beyond Water, gathers together many of his best-loved and quintessential poems.
